If you own this brand of potato chips, you need to immediately get rid of it, say authorities in the midst of a major recall.

A popular brand of potato chips is being immediately recalled over major concern that a deadly disease may be lurking in the seasoning used on the chips. Frito-Lay has issued a voluntary recall of Jalapeno Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Jalapeno Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips.

The Food and Drug Administration says that there may be salmonella in the seasoning, although there aren’t any reports of illnesses related to the recall. Symptoms of salmonella include fever, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, and it is most dangerous for young children and the elderly, as well as people with compromised immune systems.

If you have any of those two products and they have a “guaranteed fresh” date of July 4 or earlier printed on the package, you need to get rid of it. No other flavors of these types of chips are being recalled.
